Bajaj Auto has introduced an ABS variant in its Pulsar NS200. The Pulsar NS200 has been one of the most important bikes in Bajaj’s portfolio. Recently it has come under pressure from competition. The 2017 Pulsar NS200 was launched earlier this year in a new avatar, that which is much more attractive than before. The bike had finally made a re-appearance after being away for some time. Now, it gets another update in way of ABS which was always desired.

The earlier Pulsars used to be quite simplistic in design (150,180,200). The Pulsar 220 a half fairing inspired from the famous 80’s television series – Street Hawk. The NS200 was a sea change in terms of design. This was attractive aggressive and muscular. The handle bars being clip-ons are still raised pretty high for comfort.
Unlike its duke 200 cousin where a person would refuse to sit pillion. May be one of the cause for many break-ups. The horns like grab rails also add to the sporty feel. The twin parallel beam tail lamp remains the same as a typical Pulsar trademark.

The colours available for the 200 NS are
Bajaj has eliminated a lot of colours on the 2nd innings for the 200 NS. Blue , Yellow have been waved off. Luckily the Black still remains and is amazing looking as always.
The Bajaj Pulsar NS200 gets some update in its specifications. It has the same 199cc engine but now this is a BS-IV one. This engine churns out about 23bhp of power and 18.3Nm of peak torque. A six-speed gearbox does duty here. The engine is still carbureted, hence this is a major differentiating factor from the RS200. This also helps keeping the price lower.
There is no ABS on offer yet, on the the NS200. We reckon, Bajaj will introduce only when it becomes compulsory so that it can keep the cost low. The Engine is a smooth revving unit. It has received some tweaks, which have made the refinement better. It has decent amount of power to keep one happy riding all day.
With performance not that much different from the RC 200. The 200 NS is also a performance maniac. The 6-speed gearbox does feel a bit notchy and takes some getting used to.The 23 bhp is just 2 bhp short of KTM’s 25 bhp. But this 23 is very refined and well balanced. Unlike KTM which has initial shoot. The 200 NS has a good mid range power and torque. This makes the bike less throaty.

The Bajaj Pulsar NS200 delivers excellent efficiency for the performance figures, and a decent 12 litre tank capacity the bike can do an easy 380 km fuel range before hitting the fuel stop, I did Rann of Kutch ride with a NS 200 and the guy would easy stop after 280 km.
The Pulsar NS200 was a good handles and it still has this trait. It felt quite well poised on the track too. The bike is designed more for comfortable riding rather than on the race track, like the RC200, or a street fighter like the Duke 200. Bajaj believes that as most customers use it for daily commuting, it is better if the bike has a less aggressive seating posture.
Unlike the other Pulsars the DNA of this bike is completely different. The bike is easier to ride. Except for the clip-on handlebars the bike is easy to maneuver in city traffic. The suspension is plush and soft and takes care of the undulations of our roads rather easily. The rear is a gas filled shock which Bajaj portrays as a specialty thing.
The suspension setup is a well tuned one, providing the right mix of good handling and ride. The braking of the NS is good even without ABS. The addition of ABS has further taken the braking a few notches higher.

Well, The Pulsar NS200 is no doubt a value for money bike. In terms of looks, it can give some serious competition to bikes from much higher segments. It is a good performer and has a decent fuel efficiency too. There are some glitches like a notchy gearshift, but it is livable. This is one bike to buy only on the fact that it looks amazing. Now with ABS, it is even a better value.
