 2017 KTM Duke 200 Design

The design of the 2017 KTM Duke 200 remains unchanged. It now comes with new graphics on the body. The Duke 200 surely looks more eye-catching now and attracts more attention due to the new graphics. The stying of the bike remains the same and here also there is no change. Though we were expecting a new headlamp, KTM has decided to stick to the same headlamp as before. This is done to keep costs low. The instrument cluster also remains the same and there is absolutely no change in it. It retains the all digital look. There is no change, whatsoever.

It comes as a disappointment that a bike which is quite a performer in its segment, hardly gets any upgrades. The Duke 200 does not get tank shrouds like the Duke 250. The plastic tank still sits atop it. The grips, levers and switch gear remain the same too. There is no bar end provided yet, which is a downside. We were expecting these in the 2017 version. The seat is the same but gets a new cover, which feels better than before. The taillamp is same as the earlier bike as well. The design of the 2017 KTM Duke 200 remains the same and there is not much to talk about it. KTM has not made any major changes as their input costs have gone up owing to the BS-IV up gradations required in the engine.

2017 KTM Duke 200 Engine

The new KTM Duke 200 continues to have the same engine as the current one. It now gets BS-IV certification. It comes with a 199.5cc single cylinder, liquid-cooled engine. There is no change in power which is 24bhp@10000rpm. The torque is also untouched and is 19.2NM@8000rpm. This bike does not get ride by wire technology or even a slipper clutch, which was expected. The engine continues to be mated to the existing six-speed gearbox. The exhaust also remains the same and does not get a side slung exhaust like the Duke 250 or 390. The Duke 200 is still a fun to ride machine. Performance wise, the Duke 200 is still the leader in its segment but we with the 2017 version had got a bit more refined, like the Duke 390.

2017 KTM Duke 200 Ride and Handling

This is where the Duke 200 sets itself apart for the competition. it has very good handling. It come with regular MRF tyres and not Metzelers. But still, the trip and sharp handling are its forte. The suspension setup and tyres remain the same as the earlier model. The same applies also to the brakes. There are disc brakes at the front and rear, hence braking is impressive. This being a light bike, the braking performance also becomes better.eh seats are firm and they are helpful in maneuver the bike . The KTM Duke 200 has not been designed to make you comfortable, but it is designed for the trill factor, which it provides very well. We wish there was ABS in the bike . This is missed sorely.

One of the biggest disappointments in the 2017 KTM Duke 200 was the absence of ABS. It also does not get a t get a slipper clutch, which we were expecting. The Duke 390 comes loaded with a lot more features, though. Also the Duke 250 comes with more features and those looking to upgrade or have more features can look at the Duke 250. The disc brakes are also the same as the earlier bike. Ride by wire was another demanded feature but the 2017 KTM Duke 200 does not get it. The Duke 200 remains a bike which is fun to ride. It is powerful and a fun to ride motorcycle. We wish it came with more upgrades than just cosmetic.

Verdict

The KTM Duke 200 leads the way when it comes to performance bike in the 150-200cc segment . It carried a novelty, however, new launches like the Yamaha FZ25 have made it a bit lacklustre in comparison. Though the fun factor of the bike great, spending a little more money to buy a Duke 250 is always advisable.  If you find the Dike 200 too basic and the 390 is out of your budget, then the Duke would be a better choice.
