Mahindra Ssangyong are together developing two new SUVs. The company has been successful with its new SUV, which is the Tivoli. This compact SUV has received a good response in the market.

Ssangyong has developed a range of new petrol engines with Mahindra, which are being used by both the brands. This first joint project has helped them to reduce their project cost drastically. Due to this reason, Mahindra and Ssangyong have together planned to launch more products in the near future.

To begin with, the first SUV will be based on the X100 platform, which is the same as the Tivoli. This will be a compact SUV and it will have more features. Where this SUV will excel will be its pricing. This will be made available with petrol and diesel engines. This will be under 4 metres and help Mahindra to expand its portfolio for sub 4 metre SUVs.

This new SUV will boost the numbers for the company as it will be their first modern crossover/SUV. This will be made on the monocoque platform and will help the company to reach out to urban dwellers.

This SUV will be priced between INR 7 lakhs to INR 12 lakhs.

It will get petrol and even diesel engines and there will be an AMT in the offering too (for the Indian car market). This will help the company to establish the Ssangyong brand in India.

The second product will be a seven-seater SUV. This will be the company’s new global product that will be offered as the launch product for many other developed markets. This will come with petrol and diesel engines. There will be automatic and even an all-wheel drive version on the offering.

Ssangyong will target majorly the North American and other developed markets with this new SUV. This will be a monocoque platform and there will even be a van made on this platform. The designing bit will be done with the help of Pininfarina. The new-generation Ssangyong vehicles will be stylish, feature-loaded, performance oriented and good on mileage too. This new SUV will be coming to India as well.

As Mahindra-Reva is an in-house brand, there are reports that Tivoli’s electric version is also in the making. The brand is even working on introducing the new-generation of the Rexton, Korando pick-up and the Korando as well.

We expect these new platforms to boost more Mahindra products too. For instance, the new compact SUV project will even churn out another Mahindra SUV as well in this segment.

At the same time, the bigger SUV platform could be used to make a bigger Mahindra SUV. Possibly even the next-generation of the Mahindra XUV500 could be designed on this platform.

Mahindra at the moment is working on about 56 new products.

The Ssangyong Tivoli will be making its way into India soon. This will be the Korean brand’s second SUV for India. Displayed at the 2016 Auto Expo, we expect the Tivoli to be launched in India by early 2017.
