2 New Hatchbacks Coming Next Month!

In the world full of SUVs, we hardly have any enthusiasm left for sedans and hatchbacks. We have dozens of SUVs in India right from the entry level segment. However, next month we are going to see launches of two beloved hatchbacks – new gen Maruti Swift and Tata Altroz Racer. Upcoming Hatchbacks – Maruti Swift

One of the most awaited cars of 2024 is the new Maruti Swift. Last year in 2023, the new Maruti Swift made its first appearance at the Tokyo Motors Show. Soon after that the hatchback was launched in Japan and we got to know all the details. Although it is a facelift, Maruti, or rather Suzuki has retained the original design language of the Swift. Still, Suzuki has done some subtle changes to make the car look refreshed.

Exterior

In terms of design, the new Swift gets new headlamps with blacked out treatment which appears very sporty. The front grille is also all new with a honeycomb pattern and is larger than before. There is a slight change in the front as the new Swift now gets SUV-like clamshell bonnet with an evident shut line. The side profile is the same as before but gets new alloy wheels and repositioned rear door handles. The rear door handles have been moved from the pillars which are replaced with a quarter glass. The rear again, it’s the same as before with noticeable changes like new tail lamps and bumpers.

Interior & Features

On the inside the new Swift gets a completely new interior with dashboard design similar to the Baleno and Fronx. It is a multi-layered style dashboard with a massive 9.0-inch floating touchscreen system. Overall the new interior is expected to be loved by Indians. Along with the new interior, the new Swift comes loaded with features. The list includes – connected car technology, blind spot warning, sem-digital instrument cluster and wireless charging. Safety features could include 6 airbags on higher variants, ESC, traction control.

Engine Specifications

Powering the new Swift is an all new Z-series engine from Suzuki. This engine is down from 4-cylinder on 3-cylinders but Suzuki assures to offer a refined unit. That said, the new Swift comes with a 1.2-litre petrol engine which produces 80bhp and 108Nm of peak torque. Transmission duties will be handled by the manual and AMT gearboxes.

Upcoming Hatchbacks – Launch & Price

So as mentioned, the new Swift will be launching anytime in May 2024. What about the pricing? Currently, the pricing of the Swift starts from Rs 7.04 lakh and goes to Rs 10.51 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). With these updates, we can expect a price hike of Rs 80k to 1 lakh is expected over the current model. 

Upcoming Hatchbacks – Tata Altroz Racer

Now if the new Swift has created excitement among us, the new Altroz Racer has created an enthusiasm among us. Yes, it will be coming with new features and tweaked design, but the major changes will be done under the hood. The Altroz Racer will come with Nexon’s turbo petrol engine which will make justice to the Altroz’s excellent handling capabilities.

Engine Specifications

The upcoming Tata Altroz Racer will be offered with Nexon’s 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine. For Nexon, this engine produces 118bhp and 170Nm of peak torque. Currently, the Altroz gets transmission options like 5-speed manual and 6-speed DCA. However, for the Altroz Racer, Tata Motors will offer a 6-speed manual transmission. Now it will be exciting to see if the Altroz Racer comes with 7-speed DCA transmission or not. Overall, the new engine will make justice to Altroz as the current engine options feel underpowered for the hatchback.

Exterior 

Other than the powerful engine, Altroz Racer will be identical to the regular Altroz. However, Tata will likely offer new colour options like Red and Orange, combined with blacked out hood and roof. The Altroz Racer was first showcased at Auto Expo 2023 which was wearing Red shade and at the Bharat Mobility Show 2024, the car was wearing Orange shade. In both the avatars, the Altroz was looking like a true hot-hatch. To enhance the overall appeal, the Altroz Racer can be seen with two white strips running on the hood and the roof. Other changes include sportier alloy wheels and a sporty rear spoiler.

Interior & Features

Similar to the exterior, the interior of the Altroz Racer will continue to remain the same. However, it could get the new and bigger – 10.25-inch touchscreen system. Rest, the sporty elements will be offered on the inside as well. As seen on the concept car, the Altroz Racer was equipped with white and orange stripes on the seats and orange highlights around the AC vents. We can also expect features like 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, sunroof, ventilated seats, 360-degree camera, head-up display, and a few more.

Upcoming Hatchbacks – Launch & Pricing

Earlier, it was believed that the Altroz Racer will be launched this month itself. However, it seems that Tata Motors has pushed the dates forwards. That said, the Altroz Racer is highly expected to be launched in May 2024. Pricing-wise, the Altroz Racer is expected to be priced between Rs 11 lakh to Rs 14 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). Once launched, the Altroz Racer will directly rival the Hyundai i20 N Line.
