Skoda cars has reintroduced the Skoda Superb in India today. Well, not really! Don’t get us wrong, Skoda has brought back the Superb in India but it is not the new and luxurious model launched recently. In fact, the brand has brought back the one which was launched back in 2021 and was on sale in India till April 2023. The 2021 Skoda Superb felt dated back then and feels decades old today. So why has Skoda got the old Superb back and that too at a whopping price tag? And does it have enough features to offer?

Skoda Superb – What’s New?

New Skoda Superb

Or rather we should discuss what’s old? Honestly, everything! Look at the car from every angle and you will find nothing new except for the new alloy wheels and colour options. The headlamps, tail lamps and the bumpers are the same and Skoda has not done any changes in that regard. However, we have to admit the fact that the Skoda Superb still looks bold and elegant. Skoda is meant to design elegant cars and the Superb is no exception. What also goes in the favour of the Skoda Superb is the sheer length and the long wheelbase. In fact, the Superb can compete with sedans like Audi A6 and BMW 5-series, solely in terms of dimensions.

Interior & Features

Once you step inside the new Superb you will realise how old it actually feels! It gets the same old dashboard which lacks premium appeal. SUVs like Tata Safari and the XUV700 offer a premium cabin at a much lower price range. It gets the same old 9.0-inch touchscreen system which does feel fluid to operate. To keep you entertained, the Superb comes with 11-speakers and a subwoofer which offers excellent music experience. In terms of features however, the Skoda Superb packs some exclusive equipment. The list includes – 3-zone climate control, LED headlamps & LED tail lamps, 360-degree camera, sunshades for rear windows and rear windshield, 12-way electrically adjustable front seats, memory and massage driver seat, 9-Airbags, and a few more. That said, cars priced under Rs 30 lakh (on-road, Mumbai) have to offer more than the Superb like a large panoramic sunroof.

Skoda Superb – Engine & Specifications

skoda superb engine

The only reason to love Skoda Superb is the powerful and refined 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine. This engine is capable of producing 188 bhp and 320 Nm of peak torque and comes mated with 7-speed DSG transmission. This combination is loved by enthusiasts as the DSG unit makes the shifts in no time.

Price

Now that’s what’s bothering us about the Skoda Superb. Earlier, the sedan was available under Rs 45 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), which was an excellent package back then. Now, the 2024 Skoda Superb which is the same as before will cost you for Rs 64.37 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). Skoda earlier announced that they are bringing back the Superb to observe the demand for the sedan and plan the launch of a real new Skoda Superb accordingly. But, in a country like India where SUVs, especially Toyota Fortuner at Rs 50 lakh, rules the roads, bringing back the old Superb at such a high cost does not make sense at all!
