Volkswagen Polo Coming back to India?
The Polo was Volkswagen’s most successful car in India and one that established the brand in the country. Even though the car was discontinued in 2022, fans keep on asking Volkswagen when the Polo could make a comeback in India. Now, at the recently concluded Volkswagen annual conference, the brand’s director answered this question for the fans. Without wasting any time, let’s talk about Volkswagen Polo India.

In a media interaction, Volkswagen’s brand director was asked if Polo is coming back to India. He stated that, currently, there are no plans for the Polo to make a comeback in India. Later on, he added that in future, we could see the nameplate on an SUV or EV. According to him, relaunching the Polo in the hatchback form may not be possible. In India and globally, Volkswagen is more focused on the premium segment and relaunching the Polo as a hatchback would essentially mean taking a step backwards. This is also the reason why Volkswagen is not joining Skoda in its compact SUV project.

Volkswagen India plan
Though the Polo is not in its plans, Volkswagen has lined up some new products for the Indian market. It is expected to start its EV journey with the ID.4 that was unveiled yesterday. The ID.4 is expected to be launched by the end of 2024. Additionally, we expect the brand to update its current lineup of cars – the Taigun and Virtus. Both these cars are expected to get facelift updates. Additionally, Volkswagen is also evaluating the GTi brand for India, but the brand refrained from stating a fixed launch timeline.
