Citroen eC3 Crash Test

Citroen eC3 Crash Test

The first Citroen product to be tested by Global NCAP is the eC3 hatchback. Talking about the ratings, the hatchback scored 0 star in the crash test. For adult safety, the hatchback scored 20.86 points from 34 whereas it scored 10.55 out of 49 for child safety. Despite the 0 star rating, GNCAP noted that the body structure of the Citroen eC3 was stable and could withstand further loading.

According to the report, the eC3 performed well in the frontal impact test, offering good to marginal protection to the driver and passenger neck, knee and tibias. Chest protection to both the driver and passenger rated poor limiting the rating to just 1 star. But in the side impact test, the car offered adequate protection to the occupants head, chest and abdomen area. This different in safety between the front and side impact test made the car to lose the one star in the overall result.

Currently, the eC3 comes with minimum safety features like 2 Airbags, ABS and skips ESC which is a minimum requirement according to GNCAP. Commenting on the results, Stellantis Group, owner of Citroen cars, said – “Stellantis confirms its vehicles comply with all current local market regulations and its commitment to safety with 6-Airbags and additional safety features as standard across products in India during the second half of the year.”

While the eC3 has scored 0 stars in safety, we have cars like Safari, Harrier, Nexon, Virtus & Slavia which are currently safest cars in India. Both Harrier & Safari currently have the most adult and child safety ratings and we wish more cars to achieve this milestone. Even brands like Hyundai who was never known for safety has shifted its focus with the Verna. The sedan scored 5-star ratings and in fact the brand has standardised 6 Airbags in all its cars.
