Renault Kiger: Rs 7.04 lakh to Rs 13.30 lakh (on-road, Mumbai)

The cheapest SUV offering in the country, the Renault Kiger RXT variant is the first car on this list. Priced at Rs 8.77 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), this model is one of the most value-for-money variants of the SUV. Key feature additions on this trim include an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, steering mounted controls, push-button start/stop, 16-inch styled wheels, rearview camera with parking sensor, rear wiper & washer among others.

In addition to the above-mentioned convenience features, the car also comes equipped with ABS with EBD, ESP, traction control, hill start assist and 4 airbags as standard. Powertrain options on the model include a 1.0-litre NA petrol engine rated for 72 bhp and 96 Nm. This unit comes mated to either a 5-speed manual or an AMT automatic gearbox option.

Hyundai Exter: Rs 7.22 lakh to Rs 12.19 lakh (on-road, Mumbai)

At Rs 8.80 lakh, the Hyundai Exter S variant is the next car on this list. The cheapest Hyundai SUV in the country, the Exter offers rugged looks along with a traditional SUV-like high seating position. The four-wheeler is also one of the most featured rich SUVs in its segment offering 14-inch steel wheels, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, a digital instrument cluster, a 4-speaker audio system, Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, rear AC vents and height adjustable driver’s seat as standard from the mid ‘S’ variant.

In terms of safety, Hyundai is offering the SUV with 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, hill start assist and TPMS Highline among others as standard. Powertrain options include a 1.2-litre Kappa petrol engine that produces 83 bhp and 113.8 Nm of peak torque. This system comes mated to both a 5-speed manual and an AMT automatic gearbox option.

Tata Punch: Rs 7.27 lakh to Rs 12.16 lakh (on-road, Mumbai)

India’s most popular SUV model, the Tata Punch is the next car on this list. Offering a full 5-star safety rating, the Punch is the perfect replacement for the Maruti WagonR in India. In terms of exterior design, the Punch offer a muscular front face with bulging fenders and squared-off wheel arches with thick plastic body cladding.

The Punch Adventure Rhythm, which is priced at Rs 8.67 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), is the most value-for-money variant. Key feature highlights include a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, 4 speakers + 2 tweeter audio setup, reverse parking camera with sensor and remote centre locking among others.

Tata offers two engine options on the new Punch. The 1.2-litre petrol engine produces 87.8 bhp and 115 Nm while the new 1.2-litre CNG unit produces a lower 73.5 bhp and 103 Nm of peak torque. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and an AMT automatic. Additionally, the Punch also comes with Tata’s twin-cylinder technology, which liberates sufficient boot space by using two small cylinders instead of a large one.

In addition to the above-mentioned models, customers can also choose the Nissan Magnite and the Maruti Suzuki Fronx priced at Rs 9.49 lakh and Rs 9.69 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), respectively. These models are larger than the Maruti WagonR and offer more equipment on the inside.
