The Thar 5-door is Mahindra’s most anticipated launch this year. We have been talking about the launch for quite some time now, and a lot of potential buyers have been eagerly waiting for the SUV. Now, finally, we have some confirmation from Mahindra regarding its launch timeline. In today’s article, let’s talk about the Mahindra Thar 5-door. 

Launch details

Mahindra’s CEO and executive director, Rajesh Jejruikar, confirmed the launch timeline of the Thar 5-door at the company’s last earnings call. The brand plans to launch the Thar 5-door in mid-2024 which could mean sometime in June or July this year. In 2022, Mahindra launched the Scorpio-N in June, so the Thar 5-door launch in the same month looks a quite a real possibility. 

Mahindra Thar 5-door – Design

From the spy shots, it is clear that the Thar 5-door is going to get some subtle design changes over the 3-door version. The grille has been slightly tweaked with new LED headlamps and DRLs. Mahindra has also tweaked the bumper and fog lamp housing. We could see new alloy wheels, a hood scope and new tail lamps. Overall the thar 5-door has a good amount of road presence.

Specifications

Under the hood, the Thar 5-door is expected to share its specifications with the Scorpio-N. So we could see a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine capable of producing 200bhp and 370Nm of torque. Diesel duties could be handled by the 2.2-litre unit capable of producing 172bhp and 370Nm of torque. Both the engines are expected to come with manual and automatic gearbox options. It is also expected to come with a 4×4 and a 4×2 setup, which was recently spied upon.

The Thar 5-door is expected to get some noteworthy changes in the interior. It is expected to come with different upholstery and an updated dashboard layout. Another major change is the addition of sunroof, which is not present on the 3-door model. Other expected new features include a digital instrument cluster, bigger infotainment, more storage spaces, roof-mounted speakers, AdrenoX connectivity, a three-spoke steering wheel, etc.
