However, it’s a thirsty engine that loves to drink more and more fuel! 2024 Toyota Fortuner – Improved Mileage

2024 Toyota Fortuner - toyota hybrid

Now for 2024, Toyota has equipped the Hilux’s 2.8-litre engine with a 48V mild hybrid technology. The hybrid tech will be responsible for improved fuel efficiency, performance and off-road capabilities. It is said that the hybrid tech will improve the mileage upto 10%. The updated start/stop system with the help of hybrid tech will result in improved fuel efficiency. Further, the battery will help in reduction of engine idling from 700rpm to 600rpm, resulting in improved mileage and a silent cabin.

Improved Performance & Off-Road Capabilities

In terms of performance, the battery is capable of transferring 16bhp and 65Nm of torque to the 2.8-litre engine. That should help in improved throttle response and quick acceleration. However, do not expect a significant difference in real life scenarios. Toyota also believes that the waterproofed battery will enhance the water wading capacity while the regen braking will help in controlled downsloping. Overall, as Hilux and Fortuner share the same platform and engine, we believe that Toyota will introduce the Fortuner with the new 48V mild hybrid technology.

In 2023, Toyota introduced an updated Fortuner in Thailand. The updates are minimal with added features and a bump in power. In terms of features, the Thailand-specd Fortuner gets a larger 9.0-inch touchscreen system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Other than that, the interior layout continues to remain the same as before. In the engine departments, the Thailand spec Fortuner now produces 224bhp and 550Nm which is a bump of 23bhp and 50Nm. However, the improved performance has been exclusively reserved for the GR Sport variant only.

2024 Toyota Fortuner – Expected Launch

Now the hybrid tech on Fortuner is just our belief that the SUV should come equipped with. That said, if at all Toyota decides to offer the Fortuner with a hybrid, it should be launched by the end of 2024. Lastly, it will be interesting to see if Toyota brings the more powerful GR Sport to India!
