Before talking about the design and the features, let’s talk about the specifications as that is what everyone will be excited for. Talking about the Hyundai first, the i20 N Line comes with a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine that produces 118bhp and 172Nm of torque. This engine is mated to a 6-speed manual and 7-speed DCT gearboxes. Additionally, for the N Line, Hyundai has done some mechanical changes like stiffer suspensions and more connecting steering wheel for enhanced driving experience.

Whereas the upcoming Altroz Racer will be offered with a relatively larger engine. It will be the Nexon’s 1.2-litre petrol engine that churns out 118bhp and 170Nm of torque. As of now the Altroz racer will be mated with a 6-speed manual gearbox but we also expect the hatch to come with an option for 7-speed DCA gearbox. Will Tata make changes with other mechanicals? Well, that’s something we will get to know at the time of its official launch. Overall, both these hatches produce similar power and torque, but we expect the i20 N Line to be quicker than the Altroz Racer, thanks to the light weight body of the i20.

Design

Design-wise, both the hatchbacks look identical to their normal specced models. However, both Hyundai and Tata have done certain design changes to make the cars look sportier. For Altroz Racer, Tata Motors have showcased the car with an orange shade for body,  combined with blacked out hood and roof. To enhance the overall appeal, the Altroz Racer can be seen with two white strips running on the hood and the roof. Other changes include sportier alloy wheels and a sporty rear spoiler.

Whereas Hyundai has made some significant changes to make the i20 N Line look more sportier. It gets a different grille and tweaked bumpers which appears to be more aggressive, thanks to the additional cuts and creases. Also, it gets side skirts, rear diffuser and dual tip exhaust system, which by the way does sound sportier. So in terms of design, although both these cars are identical to their regular versions, Tata is only offering a different body shade but Hyundai is offering a sportier body kit.

Talking about the Hyundai first, the dashboard layout and the features are identical to the regular model. However, it gets an all black interior with red stitchings on the seats and gear lever. We also have red stitching on the steering wheel and red mood lighting near footwells and centre console. The car comes loaded with features like – 7 ambient sounds of nature, 10.25-inch infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, 7-speaker Bose system, wireless charging pad, sunroof and 60+ connected car features. Also, the i20 N Line comes with fog lamps, which the normal i20 misses out upon.

Pricing

In terms of pricing, the i20 N Line is priced between Rs 12.20 lakh to Rs 14.50 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). The Altroz Racer on the other hand is yet to be launched but we expect a similar pricing for it. In fact it may even undercut the Hyundai i20 N Line in terms of pricing. As of now, we can expect the Altroz Racer to be priced somewhere between Rs 11 lakh to Rs 14 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

Altroz Racer vs i20 N Line – Conclusion

So should you wait for the Altroz Racer or buy the Hyundai i20 N Line? Well, if you are in urgent need of a car, go for the i20 N Line as it has a similar package and more sportier body kit on offer. While the Altroz Racer is due for a launch, it will be interesting to see what all mechanical changes Tata makes for enhanced driving experience.
