India’s first turbo petrol CNG car is here
Tata is making moves in the CNG space. Last week, it unveiled the Tigor and Tiago with CNG AMT gearbox making them the first automatic CNG cars in the country. Now Tata is going a step above by bringing the first turbo petrol CNG cars in India. It is going to debut the Nexon iCNG at the Bharat Mobility Autoshow. Let’s now talk about the Tata Nexon CNG.
Nexon CNG
Tata is going to unveil the Nexon iCNG at the Bharat Mobility show starting tomorrow. The CNG setup will be paired with the 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine that powers the Nexon making it the first turbo petrol CNG car in the country. Tata hasn’t revealed the specifications, but we don’t expect any major changes as seen in other Tata CNG cars.
More details
The Nexon iCNG will come with Tata’s famed twin-cylinder technology. Tata is claiming a useable boot space of 230 litres, which is quite useable. This is due to the spilt cylinder that can hold a combined 60 litres of CNG. What about the spare wheel? The spare wheel is attached to the bottom of the boot as seen on the Tiago, Tigor and Altroz CNG. Other special things include single ECU, direct start in CNG, flat boot space and auto-switch between fuels.

Tata Nexon CNG – Production version?
For now, Tata has revealed the Nexon iCNG concept. Though it’s a concept, the car looks production-ready from the images. Tata has earlier stated that it plans to launch CNG in segments where diesel could be discontinued in the future. This could mean that we may see the Nexon iCNG production version sometime in the future.
