Mahindra Thar 5-door – 5 things to expect!

The Thar 5-door is one of Mahindra’s biggest launches this year. Mahindra will be hoping the Thar 5-door becomes as successful as the 3-door Thar. A lot of new details of the Thar 5-door have been popping up in the last few months. So what to expect from this big lifestyle SUV? Here are 5 things we expect from the Thar 5-door.

New design

The Thar 5-door has been spotted several times in testing. Overall the car comes with a similar silhouette to the Thar 3-door version. However, Mahindra has made some tweaks to the design. The 5-door version comes with new circular LED headlamps with LED DRLs on outline. Then we could see new alloy wheels and a hood scope. At the rear, we could see new tail lamps. Overall the thar 5-door has a good amount of road presence. 

Mahindra Thar 5-door – Increased practicality

With the extra length, the Thar 5-door is naturally going to be more practical than the normal Thar. We can expect better legroom and thigh support in the second row. The biggest advantage will be the useable boot space. These changes could make the Thar 5-door a better family car for a lot of people. Mahindra is also expected to improve the handling and suspension of the Thar 5-door to make it more comfortable for longer trips. 

More power

With the added weight, the Thar 5-door will need a more powerful engine tune. It will continue with the 2.0-litre turbo petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engine. However, we expect power figures similar to the Scorpio-N. The petrol engine could be able to produce 200bhp and 370Nm of torque. While the diesel engine could be able to produce 172bhp and 370Nm of torque. Transmission options should include manual and automatic gearboxes. The Thar 5-door could come with 4×2 and 4×4 options. 

Mahindra Thar 5-door – Added features

The Thar 5-door is going to come with more premium interior and features. From the spied details, the Thar 5-door is expected to come with a dual-tone black and brown colour scheme in the interiors. Adding to that, the SUV is expected to come with features like a sunroof, a 10-inch infotainment system, roof-mounted speakers, AdrenoX connectivity, a three-spoke steering wheel, etc. 

Launch and price expectations

Mahindra is going to launch the Thar 5-door sometime in 2024. From the current state of things, it looks like the launch will happen in mid-2024. What about the pricing? The Thar 5-door could start from Rs 18 lakh and go to Rs 23 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
