Toyota is one of those brands which is known to build purposeful SUVs. They are not only known for their reliability but also for how capable their SUVs are. Toyota-Maruti Partnership

Toyota and Maruti are into partnership wherein they exchange products and launch the rebadged version under their portfolio. They not only exchange the products but also exchange the technology like hybrid engines. The motive of launching rebadged vehicles was that Toyota was not very successful in providing affordable cars. With Maruti, Toyota aimed to enter the affordable market once again. They first launched the Baleno as Glanza and soon launched rebadged versions of Brezza and Grand Vitara. In fact, in future, Toyota might also launch the EV cars of Maruti. In such a case, could we see the recently launched Maruti Jimny to come under Toyota branding?

Toyota Jimny – Will that happen?

According to some reports, Toyota had approached Maruti for launching the Jimny under Toyota’s portfolio. However, Maruti gently denied the deal as they do not want the rebadged version of the Jimny. The reports say that Maruti feels the Jimny holds a legacy and DNA of true Maruti cars. They want to retain the original products under Maruti only. Also, it is not just the Jimny which Maruti has denied. The brand has the same feelings for Maruti Swift, their best selling hatchback in India. This sums up the confusion if Toyota will launch the rebadged version of the Jimny or not.

What’s next for Toyota?

Other than Jimny and Swift, Toyota will continue to launch maximum Maruti cars under their portfolio. Maruti’s Fronx will also soon launch as the Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor. Other than that, we are also expecting an SUV which will compete with the Tata Harrier. It will be priced around Rs 25 lakh and is expected to get launched by 2026. The other SUV that Toyota has confirmed will be the affordable Toyota Fortuner! Recently, Toyota had showcased a derivative platform of the Fortuner’s IMV platform, the IMV 0. Toyota has reduced the weight of this new platform which will not only be used for affordable Fortuner but also a series of other products. The affordable Fortuner could be priced above Rs 30 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). The brand has not shared anything about the expected launch timeline.
