EXCLUSIVE! New Maruti Swift spotted in India for the first time

Just a week ago, Suzuki unveiled the all new 2024 Swift which will soon launch in India as well. It gets some minor but noticeable tweaks on the outside and major revisions on the inside. The new Maruti Swift looks refreshed and is one of the most anticipated cars to be launched in India. But how long will it take to come here? Well, very soon as India’s most selling hatchback has been spotted testing and it looks like a completely production ready car.

New Maruti Swift – Spy Shots

Now although the new Swift was spotted testing at night and was well camouflaged, some of the key details are clearly evident. For instance, the clamshell-like bonnet we saw on the Swift in the Tokyo Motor Show is visible on the test mule car. The side profile revealed the repositioned rear door handle placement. Door handle was previously placed on the rear quarter part of the door but is now shifted to a more conventional place. With the door handled moved, Maruti has added a rear quarter glass that will probably result in a more airy cabin. Again, something that we saw in the motor show.

The rear was also spotted and the only element which can be seen are the new LED tail lamps. Overall, it can be safe to say that the upcoming Swift for India will carry all the design elements of the car showcased in the motor show. The interior was not spotted but a key highlight like the bigger touchscreen can be seen in the photo. It looks bigger and we believe it to be the same 9.0-inch touchscreen that was showcased in the motor show. The Swift unveiled globally also comes with ADAS, which sadly we weren’t able to spot on this car.

Other expected features

The Swift showcased in the Tokyo Motor Show was loaded with features. The list includes –  all new 9.0-inch touchscreen system that could get wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, ventilated seats, ADAS, 360-degree camera, and electronic parking brake with auto hold. Also, Maruti may enhance the safety by offering 6-Airbags.

New Maruti Swift – Engine Specs

The new Swift will be launched with an all new powertrain. It will be the new Z-series engine which will replace the older K12. The Z12 engine will come with 3-cylinders. The power is expected to be more or less the same at 88bhp but the torque output is expected to go up. Also, it is said that this new engine will be very efficient with an expected mileage of around 40kmpl. Suzuki could also launch the new Swift with hybrid powertrain which could be a 48V strong hybrid unit. Suzuki showcased this hybrid Swift at the Tokyo Mobility Show. However, it is still unknown if Maruti will launch the new Swift in India with the hybrid powertrain.

Launch and Price

The testing of the all new Swift has begun in India and launch could happen soon. The hatch is expected to be launched in Japan by the end of this year. For India, Suzuki will not take a long time and could be launched in early 2024. With the changes, a price hike of Rs 80k to 1 lakh is expected over the current model. Currently, the pricing of Swift starts from Rs 7.03 lakh and goes to Rs 10.50 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
