Maruti Suzuki Swift Mileage figure out! Most fuel efficient car?
Just a day before we covered the details of the all new Maruti Suzuki Swift that was revealed in the Tokyo Motor Show. However, major news is also coming from the motor show regarding the new powertrain. With the new Swift, Suzuki will introduce their new Z series engine which will replace the current K series engine. This new engine will deliver higher fuel efficiency. But how much? Let’s find out.
Maruti Suzuki Swift Mileage – Fuel Efficiency
Codenamed as Z12, it will be a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder, naturally aspirated engine. Now although the power and torque figures are yet to be revealed, the sources tell us that with the new Z-series engine, the brand has set a high fuel efficiency target. To give an estimated number, the new Z12 engine is said to achieve the claimed fuel efficiency of around 40kmpl. If the claims are true and the brand achieves the said fuel efficiency figure, it will be a massive bump from the current K-series engine. Right now the claimed fuel efficiency of Swift’s K-series engine is around 22.38kmpl for manual transmission and 22.56kmpl for AMT.
Z-series Engine Specs
The exact power figures of the new Z-series engine is not revealed but it is said that the power output will likely remain similar to the K12 unit. However, being a 3-cylinder unit, the Z12 could deliver more torque than the K12, making the city rides effortless. The 3-cylinder of the Z12 engine will have a capacity of 400cc each and will enhance the fuel efficiency and the torque output. Also, maximum torque will be generated on the lower rpms and takes away the free-revving nature of the K12 engine.
Maruti Suzuki Swift Mileage – Other Benefits
Eliminating a cylinder for the Z12 will benefit the brand to achieve certain parametres. Firstly, it will help to reduce the overall weight of the engine to achieve higher fuel efficiency. Also, the new3-cylinder engine will emit less carbon emissions. This will help the brand to keep within Suzuki’s CAFE targets. At the same time, the Swift revealed at the motor show was equipped with a strong hybrid powertrain. However, sources say that Suzuki will continue the new Swift with the regular engine in India.
The new Z12 engine will debut in the new gen Swift but we believe that Suzuki will not restrict the powertrain for the Swift only. We may see the new Z12 engine make its way under the hood of other Maruti cars like the Fronx, Baleno, Eeco, and Ignis. With time, Suzuki could also replace the entire line-up of the K-series engines with the Z-series. Overall, it was an interesting move by the company as the world is inclining towards EVs, Suzuki has invested its resources for the new internal combustion engine.
