Skoda’s compact SUV coming soon! Nexon rival
Skoda has been quite a unique brand in the Indian market. It has enjoyed some periods of success, but it has never been able to sustain that momentum. Again with its India 2.0 project, it has gotten that momentum. Skoda knows it will need more products to sustain this growth. Yesterday, we covered Skoda’s affordable EV, and now new information has popped up about Skoda’s compact SUV. In today’s article, let’s talk about the Skoda compact SUV.
New details
Skoda recently set up its operations in Vietnam. On the sidelines of this event, Martin Jahn, board member for sales and marketing at Skoda Auto confirmed that a sub-four-metre model is the next step for the brand in India. He also stated that the model is very much ready. Even though the model is close to being finished, the car is expected to debut by the end of 2024, while the launch could happen in 2025. At the same event, Skoda also stated that it is not planning to bring a sub-four-metre hatchback or sedan to India.
What to expect?
This Skoda compact SUV will most likely be based on a downscaled version of the MQB A0 IN platform. We expect this platform to still perform well in crash tests like its bigger siblings. The design will also take inspiration from the Kushaq like the traditional Skoda grille flanked by sharp headlamps. Specs-wise, we could see the 1.0-litre turbo petrol same as the Kushaq. On the Kushaq, this engine is capable of producing 113bhp and 178Nm of torque. Feature-wise, we can expect a 10-inch infotainment system, electric sunroof, ventilated seats, digital instrument cluster etc.
Skoda compact SUV – Launch timeline
As stated above, the compact SUV is expected in the latter half of 2024. Before this compact SUV, we could see Skoda launch its first i.e. the Enyaq. Coming back to the compact SUV, what could be its expected pricing? We think it will be similar to its other compact SUV rivals. That would mean starting from Rs 9 lakh and going to Rs 16 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
