Tata commands a considerable lead in the EV space. However, it knows it can’t get complacent as the tide can quickly change in the Indian market. It plans to launch six new EVs by 2025. Most of them are SUVs, so what happened to the Altroz EV? Is it coming or not? In today’s article, let’s talk about the Tata Altroz EV.

Could it come?

We recently interviewed Shailesh Chandra, MD, Tata Motors. He stated that Tata plans to bring 10 EVs by 2025. Of these four are already in the market – the Tiago EV, Tigor EV, Xpres-T and Nexon EV. Of the remaining, we know the four – Harrier, Curvv, Sierra and Avinya. So two remain the surprise ones. Of these, one is almost certainly going to be the Punch EV, as the car has been spotted testing several times. The last EV could be the Safari EV or the Altroz EV. According to some reports, Tata doesn’t have the Safari EV in its plans. But considering the parts sharing between the Harrier and Safari, the Safari EV seems like quite a feasible option.

Tata Altroz EV

Tata had earlier stated that all its ICE cars would be converted to EVs. This means the Altroz EV will happen, but its timeline remains a surprise. Maybe Tata will launch the Altroz EV first and wait for the response to the Harrier EV before it launches the Safari EV. Either way, the future of the Altroz EV is not certain for now, we would rate its launch probability at 50-50%.

What to expect?

The overall design of the Altroz EV should remain similar to the ICE variant. We could see some specific highlights on the exterior. Could Tata give it a completely new design? That is a real possibility, but we can’t be sure. In terms of specifications, We can expect a 26 to 30kWh battery pack. The Altroz EV with its better dynamics could give it a better range. We can expect a real-world range of 240km to 260km. It will also get the gen-2 motor, which is lighter and more efficient. We can expect a good performance on the Altroz EV.

Tata Altroz EV – Pricing and launch

Tata Altroz EV

As explained above, there is a 50-50% chance of the Altroz EV coming. If at all Tata launches the Altroz EV, we can expect it in the next two years. What about the pricing? The pricing of the Altroz EV should be slightly more than the upcoming Punch EV. We can expect it to start from Rs 14 lakh and go to Rs 18 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
