Now since Tata Motors has wrapped up the launches of two blockbusters, Harrier and Safari, they will shift their focus on the Curvv. It is a coupe SUV from the house of Tata Motors and will cater the C-SUV segment. When unveiled first in 2022, Tata Curvv was showcased as an EV but Tata Motors confirmed that the Curvv will be offered in ICE variants as well. Although the ICE variants will be launched post EV version, people are interested with the ICE variants and the powertrain options. So what would the engine options like and how much power will they produce?

Tata Curvv – Engine Options

Tata Curvv Engine

Earlier this year in Auto Expo 2023, Tata Motors showcased a slew of concept cars along with two new petrol engines, a 1.2-litre TGDi and a 1.5-litre TGDi. The 1.2-litre TGDi produces 123bhp and 225Nm of torque. While the 1.5-litre TGDi will be capable of producing 168bhp and 280Nm of torque. Earlier we believed that Tata Motors would debut the 1.5-litre TGDi with the new Harrier but in a recent interview with the MD of Tata Motors, Mr. Shailesh Chandra, confirmed that this engine will debut with the Curvv. The 1.2-litre TGDi would be offered on the lower variants, while the higher variants will come with the 1.5-litre TGDi.

Talking about the competitors, the Kushaq, Taigun and Seltos are offered with 1.5-litre turbo petrol engines with a power output between 150bhp to 160bhp. The Curvv could dethrone them with a 168bhp power output becoming the most powerful SUV in this category.

The third engine option which we are expecting to be offered is the 1.5-litre diesel engine which currently powers the Nexon. The unit produces 113bhp and 260Nm of peak torque. Currently, it is just the Seltos and Creta to offer diesel engines, and so, Tata Motors could try to compete with them with their 1.5-litre diesel engine. With the diesel engine, Tata Curvv will be a complete product to offer multiple powertrain options – 1.2-litre TGDi, 1.5-litre TGDi & 1.5-litre diesel engines. This will also benefit the buyers to get the SUV as per their engine preference.

Transmission Options

With these multiple powertrains, Tata Motors will probably offer multiple transmission options as well. To start with the 1.2-litre TGDi, they could offer a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DCT options. However, there are also chances of not offering the 7-speed DCT as the 1.2-litre is likely to be offered in lower variants.

Whereas the 1.5-litre TGDi will possibly get the 7-speed DCT and 6-speed manual both as transmission options. The Nexon’s 1.5-litre diesel engine, however, comes mated with a 6-speed manual and an AMT transmission. For Curvv, Tata could continue the manual transmission option but may swap the AMT with a fully automatic torque converter gearbox.

Tata Curvv Engine – Curvv as a product

Tata Curvv

Tata Curvv will be an all new SUV from Tata Motors and will be positioned between the Nexon and the Harrier. It will compete with some strong competitors like the Maruti Grand Vitara, Hyundai Creta, and Kia Seltos. Unlike other SUVs in the segment, the Curvv will boast a coupe-like design as showcased by the brand. The front design cues are very similar to recently launched Nexon, Harrier and Safari.

They all get similar styling and position for the LED headlamps and the connected DRLs. The Curvv will have a different treatment for the front grille and the front bumpers. From the side it looks striking with the sloping roofline and will probably come with 18-inch alloy wheels. At the rear too we can see sporty elements on bumpers and connected LED tail lamps.

The concept of the interiors were also showcased which displayed impressive headroom despite the sloping roof line. The overall interior layout looks clean with minimal buttons on the dashboard. It was showcased with touch based HVAC controls and a two-spoke steering wheel. Both these elements were debuted on the production model of the Nexon facelift and will be similar on the Curvv as well.

Also, Tata Curvv will be loaded with features. The list could include- touch-sensitive HVAC controls, ambient lighting, a dual-tone dashboard, powered seats, digital instrument cluster, 12.3-inch touchscreen system, ventilated front seats, LED headlamps, sequential turn indicators, etc.

Launch and Pricing

For now we do not have an exact timeline for the launch of Curvv petrol/diesel. However, it will be launched any time in 2024 after the launch of Curvv EV. Tata Curvv is expected to be priced between Rs 13 lakh (on-road, Mumbai) to Rs 24 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
