Toyota dominates the higher 7-seater market with the Innova. The launch of HyCross has further cemented its position. Toyota is also launching the Rumion to fill the affordable category. But what about the gap left between the Rumion and Crysta? To fill this, Toyota has an ace up its sleeve. That is a 7-seater version of the Toyota HyRyder. But is it happening? In today’s article, let’s find out.

Grand Vitara 7-seater details

Toyota HyRyder 7-seater

First, let’s talk about the Grand Vitara 7-seater. Maruti has reportedly started working on a 7-seater based on the Grand Vitara. Unlike the HyRyder, this Grand Vitara 7-seater will be manufactured by Maruti at its upcoming new plant in Kharkhoda, Haryana. Toyota is yet to confirm that it is also bringing a 7-seater based on the HyRyder. Still, considering how much the Grand Vitara and HyRyder are related, we think the HyRyder 7-seater is also on the cards.

Toyota HyRyder 7-seater – What could be different?

The HyRyder 7-seater will continue to be based on Maruti’s Global C platform. It could get an elongated wheelbase to house the extra rows. Design-wise, we could see a slightly different design, adding that extra layer of differentiation. Feature-wise, it could come with ADAS and some more features.

Specifications

If launched, the HyRyder 7-seater will continue with the specifications of the HyRyder. So it will continue with the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol and 1.5-litre strong hybrid petrol. Toyota could focus more on the hybrid engine like it does on the HyRyder. Toyota and Maruti will have to work out a way to fit the hybrid petrol as currently, it encroaches into the boot space. With the boot space, Toyota/Maruti will need to fit it into the floor.

Maruti is expected to first launch the Grand Vitara 7-seater. According to reports, that is going to happen in 2025. We think the Toyota version could debut after a few months. So that could mean in 2025 or early 2026. Currently, the price of HyRyder goes up to Rs 23.65 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). The 7-seater version could get a hike of Rs 1.5 lakh to 2 lakh. Keeping this in mind, the Toyota HyRyder 7-seater can go up to Rs 25 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
