The Elevate is Honda’s first proper crack at the SUV segment in India. For Honda, the success of Elevate could define its future in the country. The Elevate does seem like a competent product, but it misses out on a hybrid option. Honda has confirmed that it will not be bringing a hybrid rather it will be directly bringing an EV. So what to expect from the Honda Elevate electric? Let’s find out.

EV plans

Honda Elevate electric details

Let’s address the first question, why no hybrid? The simple answer to this is the costs involved. Hybrid cars don’t get any concessions in taxes like EVs. So a hybrid Elevate would be quite expensive and wouldn’t have made sense for the market or Honda.

Instead, Honda plans to bring an EV based on the Elevate in the next three years. The Elevate Electric should be based on the same Global Small Car platform, which also underpins the Honda City sedan. So if the Elevate is getting an EV, we could also get a City EV, but that is a topic for another day.

Expected specifications

Honda doesn’t have any EVs in India, so it is a bit tricky to guess what specifications the Elevate will come with. Globally, too, Honda only has the ‘e’. The ‘e’ comes with a 35.5kWh battery pack with a claimed range of 222km (WLTP). Honda will need a bigger battery pack on the Elevate. The Elevate will need at least 400kms of claimed range to make sense to buyers. The ‘e’ comes with a 134bhp and 152bhp motor. We can expect a similar powered motor on the Elevate electric.

Honda Elevate electric – Other changes

Honda Elevate electric design

We think Honda could keep the overall silhouette of the EV car similar to its ICE version. There could be some EV-specific changes like a closed grille, blue highlights and all that jazz. In the interior, we can see blue highlights and maybe some added features to attract customers. Once launched the Elevate electric will take on the upcoming Maruti eVX and Hyundai Creta EV.
