Volkswagen is expanding its roots in the Indian market. It has expanded in the C-SUV segment and sedan segment. Going forward it is going to launch an EV, and then we could see a 7-seater. Karlheinz hell, Head of Engineering for Volkswagen’s mid-to-full-size, confirmed that the brand is working on the second-gen Tayron for all its key markets. The Tayron is in a way, the successor to the Tiguan All-space. Unlike the Tiguan All-Space, the Tayron will be bigger than the upcoming new-gen Tiguan. This allows Volkswagen to properly accommodate the additional seating. Speaking about this, what about the platform?
The Tayron will sit on an upgraded version of VW’s MQB platform. Volkswagen is using this same platform on the next-gen Passat and Tiguan. With this new platform, the brand is claiming better refinement and dynamics. The Tayron will also come in 5-seater and 7-seater options.
Specifications
For India, Tayron should continue with the 2.0-litre petrol engine like the Kodiaq. But could we see more options on the Tayron? What else can Volkswagen bring? Globally, the Tayron is expected to come with a turbocharged 2.0-litre and 2.0-litre diesel engine both with a mild-hybrid setup. Then we also have plug-hybrid setups in two tunes – 201bhp and 269bhp. The electric range is claimed to be over 100km and this battery pack is also capable of DC fast charging. What do you think? Volkswagen Tayron – Launch timeline
The Volkswagen Tayron is still a few years away from seeing the light of day. Globally, Volkswagen could launch the Tayron by the end of 2024 as the India launch is expected in the first half of 2025. Pricing-wise, it should come with reasonable pricing as it will come through the CBU route in the country.
