Volkswagen compact SUV – is it a possibility?
Volkswagen has slowly managed to crawl back into sales with its ‘Project 2.0’. But now the project has concluded with the launch of the Virtus and Taigun. So what’s next from the brand? Volkswagen could target the most fiercely competitive segment in the Indian market. Skoda has confirmed its plans. Since Skoda & Volkswagen share their cars, we can expect a Volkswagen Nexon rival. Is it a possibility?
So will Volkswagen make a compact SUV? To answer that question, we will have to first understand Skoda’s plan. Skoda leads the group’s India Project. Skoda has started working on ‘Project 2.5’ in which it has started working on a compact SUV for the Indian market. So, then will Volkswagen also jump into this plan? According to reports, Volkswagen is yet to associate itself with this project. But seeing the potential of this segment Volkswagen might soon join in.
Volkswagen Nexon rival – What could it get?
If Volkswagen does join this project, then like other shared cars we can expect different looks, but mechanically they will be the same. Design-wise, we can expect a design similar to the Volkswagen Taigun. It could get a sharp-looking front design with a lot of chrome elements. Other than that, Volkswagen could give it new alloy wheels, bold bumpers and some added cladding to give that SUV look. It could also get that connected taillamp setup like the Taigun.
Specifications
Currently, Volkswagen has the 1.0-litre turbo petrol and the 1.5-litre turbo petrol in its arsenal. The 1.0-litre turbo petrol could be ideal for a compact SUV. What about the 1.5-litre turbo petrol? The engine could be overkill for a compact SUV and will also shoot up the cost due to higher taxation. So we will only see one engine option on the Volkswagen compact SUV? For the time being yes, but only time will tell.
Volkswagen Nexon rival – Features
Features are very important in this segment, and Volkswagen will need them to take on the established players. The compact SUV could share some of its features with the Taigun. So we can expect an electric sunroof, digital instrument cluster, ventilated seats, wireless charging etc. Volkswagen might also give it the GT variant to add that extra glamour to this compact SUV.
