Will this car be safer than Volkswagen Taigun?

Compact SUV

The compact SUV segment is one of the fastest-growing lots in India. Skoda and Volkswagen both want to have a piece of this growth and are developing a compact SUV. Skoda is spearheading the development of this car, and Volkswagen could also bring its iteration. It will be based on the brand’s MQB-A0-IN platform. Engine specifications-wise, it could come with a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine capable of producing 113bhp & 178Nm of torque. Volkswagen will have to load it with features to take on the established players like Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Maruti Brezza etc.

Volkswagen is also looking to embark on its electric journey in the Indian market. It has plans to build a ground-up EV for the market, but before that, it could launch the ID.4 to test the waters. The ID.4 will come through the CKD (completely knocked down) route in India, so it will be expensive. However, the ID.4 is a globally acclaimed product with several motor and battery options. It remains to be seen which options Volkswagen brings to India.

The Taigo is a sister model to the Taigun sold in India. The Taigo is a Taigun with a coupe-like rear. So why will Volkswagen bring the Tiago to India? Coupe SUVs are slowly becoming quite popular in India, and Volkswagen could look to tap into this growth. For the Indian market, the Taigo could be based on the MQB-A0-IN platform. Other than that, The Taigo could be pretty similar to the car sold outside India. It could share its engine and features with the Taigun.
