The launch of the Comet EV created a lot of polarising opinions in the Indian auto sector. It has done decently with 1,117 units sold in August 2023. 1,117 units are not bad for a car that has been ridiculed left & right. But, overall MG’s fortunes have been on an up-and-down trajectory. Only Hector is doing decent sales. It needs to bring some new products to India. What can MG bring to India? In today’s article, let’s talk about 2023 upcoming MG cars.

Astor update

New MG Astor front

MG’s C-SUV has not exactly set the market on fire as hoped by the brand. The Astor is a competent product but misses out on some important things. To counter this, Mg is working on updating the Astor. We could see an updated design with a new grille and bumpers. What could be new? MG could give it auto-dimming IRVM and ventilated front seats. Engine and transmission options should remain the same. Pricing-wise, it could be Rs 50,000 to Rs 60,000, more expensive than the current model.

2023 Upcoming MG cars – Comet SUV

2023 Upcoming MG cars

MG has already unveiled a small SUV based on the Comet EV in China. It has also patented the design in India. It will come with a design barring the MG logo. Globally, the small SUV comes with a 66bhp motor paired with a 28.1kWh battery pack. This combination gives it a claimed range of 303km (CLTC). In India, we could see the same specifications. Interiors are identical to the Comet barring the three-spoke steering wheel, glovebox and coloured elements. When is it coming? The Comet SUV could be launched sometime by 2025.

4EV

MG 4 EV front

MG showcased the 4EV at the Auto Expo of 2023. Globally, the 4 EV goes up against the likes of VW ID.3 and the Kia Niro EV. Dimension-wise, it is similar to the ZS EV but comes with a sleeker design. It gets two battery pack options – 51kWh and 64kWh. The smaller one comes with a claimed range of 350km and 452km on the bigger one. Charging-wise, it comes with a standard 7kW AC fast charging and also a 150kW DC charger, which goes 0% to 80%  in 40 mins. MG didn’t give a launch timeline for the 4EV, but it is expected to come to India in the next two years.
