MG’s next SUV is almost here!
MG India’s journey has been a rollercoaster of sorts. With its British heritage, it quickly swept through the market. However, it didn’t take time for its Chinese roots to catch up with it. Still, everything aside it is doing decently well. It recently launched the Comet EV and now we could see a SUV based on the Comet. We have been talking about this SUV and now MG has filed a patent for this SUV. In today’s article, let’s talk about MG small SUV.
Design patent
MG’s sister brand Baojun has already unveiled this car in China. Now SAIC, MG’s parent company has patented this design in India. The design patented car is nearly identical to the one sold in China. We expect this to remain the same on the production version barring the MG logo pasted on the front. The overall design of the Yep SUV is compact with a tall boy SUV philosophy. Dimension-wise, the Yep is slightly bigger than the Comet.
MG small SUV – Specifications
The Yep is based on the same Global Small Electric Vehicle platform as the Comet. The Yep comes with a 66bhp motor paired with a 28.1kWh battery pack. This combination gives it a claimed range of 303km (CLTC). In India, we could see similar specifications to the Comet to keep costs in check.
Interior & features
The interiors of the Yep are almost identical to the Comet EV. There are some minor changes like we get to see a three-spoke steering wheel, glovebox and coloured elements on the dashboard. Other familiar things are the 10.25-inch dual screens and rotary gearbox. The Yep comes with features like a 360-degree camera, electrically adjustable seats, a rearview camera and heated front seats.
MG small SUV – Launch & rivals
This news confirms the notion that MG will launch the Yep SUV in India. According to reports, MG will only launch this SUV once it gets the investment to set up its 2nd factory in Halol. The Yep SUV could be launched sometime by 2025. What about the pricing? I will be priced at a premium compared to the Comet EV.
