Mahindra’s next EV to be one of its kind!

Mahindra is on the offensive in the SUV and EV space. Last week, it showcased that it plans to expand its horizons. It is planning to unveil the Scorpio pickup concept. Now according to reports, Mahindra plans to surprise everyone by revealing a Thar concept. Is this the Thar 5-door concept? No, Mahindra is going one step further by revealing a Thar electric concept. In today’s article, let’s talk about Mahindra Thar Electric. 

EV platform

Not much is known about the platform. It could be built on a new dedicated EV platform or the brand could use the existing ladder-on-frame ICE platform. Building Ladder-on-frame EVs has been done by manufacturers like Ford did with the F-150 lighting. However, it is not an easy feat due to the packaging issue and space constraints. The Thar EV concept will give us a sneak peek into which direction Mahindra wants to take its off-road EVs. 

Off-road capabilities

The Thar is known for its 4×4 capabilities, and the EV will continue with this 4×4 setup. According to reports, the Thar EV could come with a quad-motor set-up, unlike the dual-motor arrangement that is seen on other 4WD EVs. Also, the concept could come with capabilities like crab steer or crab walk enabling the SUV to roll sideways and even perform a 360-degree turn in one position. 

Mahindra Thar electric – Price and launch date

For now, Mahindra is revealing the Thar EV concept. So will it make it into the production stages? That only Mahindra can tell us. Mahindra could reveal more bits of the Thar EV at the launch of the concept on 15th August 2023.
