The small SUV segment has heated up with the launch of the Exter. Technically the Exter and Punch are the only players in this segment. However, the Citroen C3 also makes the cut if we broaden it. But can it take on the Exter? In today’s article, let’s compare Exter vs C3.

First, let’s talk about the dimensions, the Exter is 3,815mm in length, 1,710mm in width and 1,631mm in height. It sits on a wheelbase of 2,450mm and has a ground clearance of 185mm. On the other hand, the C3 is 3,981mm in length, 1,733mm in width & 1,586mm in height. It sits on a wheelbase of 2,540mm and has a ground clearance of 180mm. The C3 is longer and also has a bigger wheelbase that should lead to more interior space. While the Exter has a higher height leading to more shoulder room.

The Hyundai Exter comes with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine capable of producing 81bhp and 113.8Nm of torque. Transmission options include a manual and an AMT gearbox. We also have a CNG option capable of producing 68bhp and 95.2Nm torque. 

In comparison, the C3 comes with two petrol engine options. It has a major advantage over the Exter with the 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine. This engine is capable of producing 108bhp and 190Nm of torque. We also have a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol capable of producing 80bhp and 115Nm of torque. Sadly, the C3 misses out on an automatic gearbox option.

The Hyundai Exter comes loaded with features. It comes with features like an electric sunroof, wireless charging, cruise control, digital instrument cluster, 8.0 infotainment system, automatic climate control etc. Safety features include six airbags (standard), ABS with EBB, TPMS, electronic stability control, hill start assist control and Vehicle stability management.

The C3’s biggest weak point is its feature list. Some of its highlight features are a 10.2-inch infotainment system, all power windows, remote keyless entry, four speakers and wireless phone connectivity. Safety features include ABS with EBD, ESP, hill hold, rearview camera and dual airbags.

The pricing of the Exter starts from Rs 7.13 lakh and goes to Rs 12.08 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). While the Citroen C3 starts from Rs 7.25 lakh and goes to Rs 10.42 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). To segregate, the Citroen naturally aspirated starts from Rs 7.25 lakh and goes to Rs 9.21 lakh, while Turbo petrol starts from Rs 9.68 lakh and goes to Rs 10.42 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
