Maruti’s first pickup in India to be this?

Maruti is throwing the kitchen sink at the SUV segment. From only one SUV, Maruti has expanded to 4 new SUVs in a short while. With the growing demand for SUVs, Maruti has shifted its focus towards SUVs. The launch of Invicto has also shown that Maruti is ready to enter into unknown territories. But, all this aside, how about a pickup from Maruti? It currently has no expertise in this aspect, but it is trying. In today’s article, let’s talk about the Jimny pickup. 

Jimny pickup

According to Japanese media, Suzuki is working on a Jimny pickup. The concept model of this car could be shown at the Tokyo Motor Show, which is set to begin in October. This Jimny pickup will be based on the three-door model with the rear space extended and converted into a cargo bed. Maybe Suzuki Could use the updated chassis used on the 5-door version. This flatbed can be used for a wide range of purposes. 

Could it happen?

There are rumours, but they look quite convincing for now. Globally, the Jimny is quite popular, and Suzuki will be looking to build on it. Being a compact car, it could be used for light everyday use. It will be more of a utility vehicle than a proper commercial pickup. Considering only a few months are left for the Tokyo Motor Show, we will get our answers soon. 

Will it come to India?

The pickup segment is still in its nascent stages in the country. So it looks quite less likely that the Jimny Pickup could make its way to India. However, the Gypsy sold in India used to come with a pickup version that is still used by the army. So Maruti could try something similar with the Jimny 5-door version.
