Harley and Triumph are two brands which you wouldn’t have expected in a budget bike comparison. However, such is the Indian market, which forces everyone to adapt. Last week Harley took wraps off the X440, which is the cheapest bike, and the following day, Triumph outdid Harley by bringing the Speed 400. Both bikes have gotten rave reviews since their launch. So we thought let’s compare them. In today’s article, let’s talk about Speed 400 vs X440. 

Design

Both bikes take heavy inspiration from their bigger siblings. The X440 takes round headlight design inspiration from the XR-1200. Other similarities include a single-pod instrument cluster, a flat handlebar, side slung exhaust and integrated Harley Davidson branding inside the headlight.

The Speed 400 also comes with a circular headlight following neo-retro styling. Other highlights include a semi-digital instrument cluster, curvy fuel tank and step-up seat. The fit and finish on the Speed 400 look much better than the X440.

The Harley Davidson X440 comes with a 440cc, single-cylinder, air/oil-cooled engine. This engine is capable of producing 27bhp and 38Nm of peak torque. We have a 6-speed manual gearbox doing the transmission duties. Though the Triumph Speed comes with a 398cc, single-cylinder, liquid engine it produces more power than the x440. This engine is capable of producing 39.5bhp and 37.5Nm of peak torque. The Speed 400 also comes with a 6-speed gearbox.

Features-wise, the X440 comes with full-LED lighting, dual-channel ABS and a colour TFT display. We also get a Bluetooth module giving turn-by-turn navigation to the X440.

In comparison, the Speed 400 also comes with full LED and dual-channel ABS. The 400 comes with a traction control system and an LCD screen with an analogue speedometer.

The X440 range starts from Rs 2.29 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base model. While mid and top-spec models cost Rs 2.49 lakh and Rs 2.69 lakh respectively. In comparison, the Speed 400 is priced at Rs 2.23 lakh (ex-showroom) for the first 10,000 customers. After that, it is Rs 2.33 lakh (ex-showroom).
