Volkswagen Taigun again shows why it is the safest SUV in India!

Traditionally safety in cars has been side-lined in India for various reasons. People have been swayed by fuel efficiency or features. People would take a bigger touchscreen any day over structural integrity. However, things are changing; the recent awareness has made people more aware. In all of this, Skoda & VW set a benchmark by scoring a 5-star rating at GNCAP. Now the Volkswagen Taigun has again shown its mantle by scoring five stars at Latin NCAP. In today’s article, let’s talk about the Volkswagen Taigun safety.  

Scores Explained

The model tested by Latin NCAP was made in India for sale in Latin American markets. One major change is that this model comes with 6-airbags standard and so was tested with 6-airbags. The Taigun scored 36.99 points or 92.47% in Adult occupant protection. In the Adult occupant test – Latin NCAP conducted frontal crash protection, side crash protection, and side pole impact test. It also conducted whiplash protection under the rear impact, which is not tested by GNCAP. In Child Occupant, the Taigun scored 91.84% or 45 points. The Taigun provided full protection to 3-year-olds and 18-month old, similar to the Indian model. 

Volkswagen Taigun safety – Extra test by Latin NCAP

Latin NCAP conducts several tests that are not mandatory in GNCAP. The Taigun went under a moose test at a maximum speed of 85kmph. Also, seat belt reminders for all five passengers are needed compared to GNCAP, which only needs front passenger seat belt reminders. The Latin NCAP is a tough nut to crack, with some big names like the Tucson, Sportage, WRV and new Polo scoring only three stars. So it is quite commendable that the Taigun has once again scored a perfect 5.
