5 expectations from the Mahindra Thar 5-door
The Thar has single-handedly uplifted the lifestyle SUV segment in the country. Recently, Mahindra launched the Thar RWD, which has a waiting period of almost a year. Next up, the Thar is going to the gym and getting buffed up. No, seriously, Mahindra is bringing its 5-door version. So what are some expectations from the Thar 5-door? New platform
Mahindra has confirmed that the Thar 5-door will use the same platform as the Scorpio-N. This platform is a modified version of the ladder-on-frame chassis used on the three-door Thar. Mahindra’s tweaks have made the Scorpio-N a very good handling car, and the same can be expected on the Thar 5-door.
Tweaked design
The overall silhouette of the thar 5-door will be very similar to the Thar 5-door, but there will be some subtle changes. We can expect Mahindra to tweak the grille design and give a more sculpted bonnet. The side profile could come with a clean design with a large window area. At the rear, we could have rectangular-shaped tail lamps with the Thar badging inside them.
5-door Mahindra Thar – Specifications
Like the platform, the Thar 5-door will share its specifications with the Scorpio-N. So it will also come with a 2.0-litre turbo petrol and a 2.2-litre diesel engine. The petrol engine could produce around 200bhp and 370Nm of torque. At the same time, the diesel engine could produce 172bhp and 370Nm of torque. Both engines should come with manual and automatic gearbox options.
New features
The Thar 5-door could solve some problems that face the current Thar. It will look to change the interior upholstery. We don’t think Mahindra will load it with a plethora of features, but rather some useful ones. We could see a new infotainment system, a bigger glovebox, armrest etc.
5-door Mahindra Thar – Launch & pricing
Mahindra recently confirmed that it would not be launching the Thar 5-door this year. It has clearly stated that it plans to launch the Thar 5-door sometime in 2024. What about the pricing? The Mahindra Thar 5-door pricing could start from Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom).
