Thar 5-door launch timeline revealed by Mahindra!

The Mahindra Thar has single-handedly made the lifestyle SUV segment popular in India. The success of Thar even forced Maruti to launch the Jimny in the country. Now the next step for Mahindra is to bring a bigger version of the Thar. The brand is already working on the 5-door version. Last week, some publications reported that Thar 5-door would be launched this year. Now Mahindra has given a statement stating the true launch timeline of the Thar 5-door. Mahindra’s statement

As stated, some publications had reported that Mahindra plans to launch the Thar 5-door on 15th August 2023 in South Africa. Mahindra posted a tweet on Twitter squashing this report and stating that the launch of the Thar 5-door will happen first in India sometime in 2024. This puts to rest a lot of rumours about the launch timeline of this 5-door SUV. 

What else do we know?

Mahindra has confirmed that the Thar 5-door will be based on a modified ladder-on-frame chassis like the Scorpio-N. The Thar 5-door could share its specifications with the Scorpio-N. So we could see a 2.0-litre mStallion petrol engine (200bhp/370Nm) and a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine (172bhp/370Nm) handling the duties. Both engines are expected to come with manual and automatic gearbox options. 

Mahindra Thar 5-door launch – What to expect?

The Thar 5-door is expected to get some design changes in the exterior. We could see a new grille and headlamps. Other changes could include new bumpers, door handles, side steps and tail lamps. The interior could also see changes like new upholstery and more storage spaces. In terms of features, we could see a new centre armrest, a bigger infotainment system and more storage spaces.
