Could this be Kia’s next blockbuster in India?
Kia has gained quite a customer base in a small time frame. Its plan to bring SUVs into lucrative segments has become a major success for the Korean brand. Kia plans to launch the Seltos facelift and Sonet facelift soon. After that, we could see the Carnival. But what’s Kia’s plan after that? It could include the Sportage SUV. Dimensions
Globally, the Kia Sportage comes with a short wheelbase and a long wheelbase version similar to the Hyundai Tucson. The Short Wheelbase variant measures 4,515mm in length and has a wheelbase of 2,680mm. In comparison, the long wheelbase measures 4,660mm in length and has a wheelbase of 2,755mm. Other dimensions like height – 1,660mm & width 1,865mm remain the same on both variants. We think Kia could bring the long wheelbase to India like what Hyundai does with Tucson.
Design
The Kia Sportage gets a very radical design even compared to other Kia cars. At the front, we have a big grille with a grey element at the top. Then we have boomerang-shaped DRLs that separate the headlamps from the grille. The side profile is more or less identical to the newly launched Hyundai Tucson. At the rear, we have sleeker tail lamps similar to the Carens.
Kia Sportage India 2023 – Specifications
Globally, the Sportage comes with a sleeve of engine options. If Kia brings it to India, it will share its specifications with the Hyundai Tucson. So we could see the 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol and a 2.0-litre diesel engine. Transmission options could include a manual and automatic gearbox on both engines. With these on offer, the Kia Sportage would be a lucrative machine.
Interior & features
Being a Kia car, the Sportage comes with a premium-looking interior design. Straight away, we see the floating infotainment system and instrument cluster. The Sportage has a single-piece display that looks very premium. The AC vents wrap around quite well over this display. Below that, we have AC controls that are touch sensitive. Other highlights include a three-spoke steering wheel, dual-zone climate control and an outside mirror memory system.
Kia Sportage India 2023 – Will it be launched?
Kia hasn’t stated anything concrete about the launch of Sportage in India. Kia had exported units of the Sportage to India to showcase at the Auto Expo 2023, but the brand didn’t showcase them for some reason. So, will it come to India? As the Indian market matures, Kia will need to bring more global products to the country. The Sportage could be an ideal choice, due to its modern looks and features.
