The affordable MPV segment is quite attractive in the country. However, traditionally it has been dominated by Maruti and Toyota. So other manufacturers have found it difficult to crack this segment. Kia gambled by launching the Carens in this segment in 2022. The Carens has done well enough for the brand with constant sales of 6k to 8k units per month. But Kia has also encountered some problems with the Carens. Kia has now issued a recall for the Carens. In today’s article, let’s talk about the Kia Carens owners recalls.

Instrument cluster recall

Kia has issued a recall of the Carens for the faulty instrument cluster. According to reports, the instrument cluster doesn’t boot up properly or goes completely blank on startup. This issue has likely affected Carens units produced between September 2022 and March 2023. Around 30,297 units of the Carens will be inspected for this issue. Kia will be sending notifications to owners whose cars were manufactured in this batch and will ask them to come to the service centre to install a software update.

This is not the first recall for the Carens; earlier, Kia had issued a recall for a faulty airbag control unit. At that time also, the brand had issued a similar notification and had solved it through a software update. Recalls are inherently not a bad thing, as it shows the manufacturer is ready to solve the issue. Still, manufacturers should look to avoid these issues in the first place.
