To go with the look, it gets larger 18-inch wheels, flared wheel arches, a vertically slated grille, etc. What about the specifications? The Thar comes with three engine options – a 1.5-litre diesel, a 2.2-litre diesel and a 2.0 petrol engine. Moreover, you get a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter in terms of gearbox options. The pricing of the Thar starts from Rs 12.73 lakh and goes to Rs 20.34 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

The Fortuner is one of the best-selling Toyota cars, and that is something extraordinary for a Rs 50 lakh car to achieve. Over the year, the Fortuner has managed to achieve a macho cult in the Indian market, and ground clearance has helped it achieve this status. The Fortuner comes with a ground clearance of 225mm. Engine-wise, the Fortuner comes with 2.7-litre petrol and a 2.8-litre diesel engine. What about the pricing? The Fortuner starts from Rs 38.92 lakh and goes to Rs 60.86 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). 

Honda Elevate – 220mm

After a deep slumber, Honda has finally woken up from sleep with the Elevate. The Elevate is Honda’s first proper SUV in India, and its success could shape Honda’s future in the country. So Honda doesn’t want to keep any stones unturned. The Honda Elevate comes with the segment’s best ground clearance of 220mm. Other than that, it comes with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. Feature-wise, we have an electric sunroof, a 10.25-inch infotainment system, a semi-digital instrument cluster, wireless phone connectivity and a lane watch camera etc. Honda is yet to reveal the pricing of the Elevate, but it is expected to be around Rs 11 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). 

Maruti Grand Vitara/Toyota Urban Cruiser HyRyder – 210mm

The C-SUV twins from Maruti and Toyota have a lot of things going for them, and ground clearance is one of them. The Grand Vitara and HyRyder offer a ground clearance of 210mm, which was the best in the segment till the unveiling of the Honda Elevate. Other than ground clearance, the Grand Vitara and HyRyder come with strong hybrid setups and AWD options. The pricing of the Grand Vitara starts from Rs 12.75 lakh and goes to Rs 23.42 lakh, while the pricing of the HyRyder starts from Rs 12.75 lakh and goes to Rs 23.24 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

After a long wait, Maruti finally launched the much-awaited Jimny 5-door in the Indian market. Being a lifestyle SUV, the Jimny had to come with a good amount of ground clearance, and it sure does justice with its 210mm of clearance. Other than that, the Jimny comes with a 4×4 for true off-road enthusiasts. Powering this 4×4 setup is a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine capable of producing 103bhp and 134Nm of torque. Transmission options include a manual and a 4-speed AT gearbox.
