Last week, Honda finally unveiled its latest SUV in the Indian market. The Elevate is going to take on the fiercely competed C-SUV segment. Honda has loaded with all the necessary things like features, design & specifications etc. However, the Elevate misses something that it was almost certain to come with before the launch. What is this thing? In today’s article, let’s talk about the Honda Elevate EV.

Hybrid setup

Honda takes great pride in its hybrid technology and most of its newer cars come with one. The Elevate was also rumoured to come with a hybrid setup, but that didn’t happen. This is even though Elevate is based on the same platform as the City. Instead, Honda has claimed that it plans to launch the EV version of the Elevate within the next three years.

Why not?

The main problem with a hybrid setup is the cost. Honda did try to localise the hybrid powertrains, but that still seems like an issue. Also, Hybrid cars are taxed quite heavily in comparison to EVs. So it didn’t make logical sense for Honda to bring the hybrid setup. This will leave the Elevate vulnerable to the hybrid – Grand Vitara & HyRyder and also the diesel-powered – Seltos & Creta. Honda will hope that the brand name helps Elevate till the EV arrives.

Elevate as a product

The Elevate gets a boxy design at the front with an upright grille design. We have sharp-looking headlamps with DRLs enclosed in them. The side profile is clean and the rear comes with an inverted L-shaped tail lamp with a chrome plate in the middle. Feature-wise, the Elevate comes with an electric sunroof, a semi-digital instrument cluster, connected car technology, wireless charging and a 10.25-inch infotainment system. Also, the Elevate comes with Honda Sensing, which is ADAS.
