MG is still a fairly new manufacturer in the Indian market. It is still establishing itself in the market, with its best product being the Hector. In the meantime, MG has also tried out the EV segment with the ZS EV. Now it is taking another step in the EV segment with the Comet EV. The Comet EV is quite different from anything we have seen in the Indian market. In today’s article, let’s talk about the MG Comet EV 2023.

Design

MG Comet EV 2023

The MG Comet EV is quite a different car. First of all, it’s a two-door hatchback, but with a 4-seater layout. It is smaller than the Alto, which is currently the smallest car in India and is essentially a Kei car. At the front, it will have bonnet wide DRL strip with headlamps placed lower. As we come to the side profile, we can see the compact dimensions. The tyres are quite small with 12-inch rims. At the rear, we can have LED tail lamps and an upright rear windshield.

MG Comet EV 2023 – Premium interiors

MG Comet EV 2023

MG is promising a premium experience with the Comet EV. From what we know so far, the Comet does live up to its expectation. MG has used soft-touch material at all the touch points. It also comes with a two-spoke steering wheel with audio controls. At the centre, you get a rotary gear knob with the window controls in the middle. Overall with the beige interiors, the cabin looks quite airy.

Features

MG has loaded the Comet EV with features. It comes with two 10.5-inch screens one for the infotainment and the other for the instrument cluster, steering-mounted audio controls, a tyre pressure monitoring system, an electric parking brake, and keyless entry among others.

MG Comet EV 2023 – Specifications

The Comet EV is expected to come with a 17.3kWh battery with a claimed range between 200km to 250km. So the Comet EV is more of an urban EV useful for daily errands etc. Its motor is expected to deliver around 40 bhp to the rear wheels, which should be adequate as Comet EV is just around 815kg. 0 to 100 charge is expected to take 8.5 hours. DC charging is not offered, which could be a miss.

Pricing

MG has stated that it wants to deliver a premium experience to the customer and is not looking after the most affordable EV price tag. So what could be the expected pricing? The Comet is expected to start from around Rs 8 lakh and go to Rs 12 lakh (ex-showroom). Would you buy something like the Comet EV at this price point? Do let us know in the comments.
