The SUV market continues to see a constant rise in the country. Everyone is looking to buy SUVs from small to big. The Punch has especially benefited from this craze, raking in close to 10k to 12k sales per month. So now other manufacturers like Hyundai are also working on smaller SUVs. In today’s article, let’s talk about this Rs 6 lakh SUV.

Hyundai’s plan

Rs 6 lakh SUV

Hyundai is developing an all-new SUV to enter the small SUV segment. For now, this car is codenamed Ai3 and will be based on the Casper sold in South Korea. A few months back, this car was first spotted testing in South Korea. From the spy shots, it seems to be getting a quirky design. We could expect eyebrow DRLs and circular headlamps. The side profile seems to be bigger than the Casper. At the rear, we have connected the tail lamp design.

Rs 6 lakh SUV – Expected specifications

Hyundai Punch rival is expected to share its specifications with the Grand i10 Nios. So we can expect the same platform and engine as the Grand i10 Nios. So we could see a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine capable of producing 81bhp and 113Nm of torque. Recently, Hyundai has discontinued the 1.0-litre turbo on the i10 Nios, so we may or may not see the engine on this SUV. Transmission options could include a manual and an automatic. Hyundai could also offer a CNG option on the Punch rival.

Features

Rs 6 lakh SUV

Being a Hyundai, the Punch rival is sure to come loaded with features. Some of the expected features include a 10-inch infotainment system, wireless phone charging, automatic climate control, cruise control, digital instrument cluster etc. The spied SUV also featured a sunroof which will be a big plus in the Indian market. Safety features could include 6-airbags, ABS + EBD, electronic stability & more.

Rs 6 lakh SUV – Launch date & pricing

Rs 6 lakh SUV

Hyundai was expected to unveil this Punch rival at the Auto Expo, but that didn’t happen. So now we expect Hyundai to unveil this SUV in the second half of 2023. It could be just before the festive season. What about the pricing? Hyundai will look to price it aggressively to take on the Tata Punch and Citroen C3. We expect a starting price of Rs 6 lakh (ex-showroom) for this SUV.
