Toyota is known worldwide for its range of SUVs. In India, it has restricted itself to the big SUV segment. However, Toyota is looking to change, as we saw with the launch of the Grand Vitara. Now Toyota is planning to bring another SUV. This SUV will be a Coupe SUV similar to the Maruti Fronx. In today’s article, let’s talk about this new Toyota SUV 2023.

What is this car?

At the Auto Expo, Maruti unveiled the new Maruti Fronx. The Fronx is a coupe SUV based on the Baleno hatchback. As we all know, Toyota sells the rebadged version of the Baleno as the Glanza. So there is a strong possibility that Toyota brings its SUV based on the Glanza. This will also be a coupe SUV like the Fronx. It is expected to be launched before the end of 2023.

The Fronx carries forward the Grand Vitara look, and we could expect Toyota’s version to get an Urban Cruiser HyRyder-like look. So we could see eyebrow DRLs and a small grille. Toyota could also tweak the bumpers and headlamps to change the look. The side profile will be more or less identical to the Fronx. The rear could see some changes like reworked taillamps and new bumpers.

What could remain the same?

Just like the Glanza and Baleno, we can expect the same underpinnings and powertrains on Toyota’s coupe SUV. We could see the 1.2-litre k-series engine capable of producing 87bhp and 113Nm of torque paired to a 5MT/AMT gearbox. We could also see the more powerful 1.0-litre BoosterJet engine capable of producing 100bhp and 150Nm of torque paired with a manual and an automatic gearbox option. Feature-wise, we could see the wireless charging, 9-inch infotainment, ARKAMYs sound system, 6 airbags etc.

As stated above, Maruti has just unveiled the Fronx and is yet to reveal the pricing of the car. According to reports, Maruti could unveil the pricing in the next few months. Once Maruti is done with the launch, we expect Toyota to bring its rebranded version. It will most certainly become the cheapest SUV in Toyota’s lineup, with an expected starting price around the Rs 10 lakh mark.
