We saw a lot of new upcoming EVs at the Auto Expo 2023. The EV change is being felt by all manufacturers in the country. All manufacturers are either working on one or contemplating bringing one from their global lineup. With the advancement in technology, we can expect a 500+ kms range in newer cars. So what are the upcoming affordable EVs with such a range? In today’s article, let’s find out. 

Tata Harrier EV

Tata is venturing into the big EV space with the Harrier EV. It showcased the car at the Auto Expo. The Harrier EV comes with a closed-grille design with a connected DRL design. On the side, we just have an EV badge and the rear accommodates the blacked-out tail lamps. Tata didn’t reveal the specifications, but we can expect a claimed range of over 500kms. Tata could launch the Harrier EV by the end of 2023. 

New affordable EVs – Mahindra XUV.e8

The XUV.e8 is a mid-size EV kind of resembling the size of the XUV700. Dimension-wise, it is 4,740mm in length, 1,900mm in width & 1,760mm in height. It sits on a wheelbase of 2762mm. The XUV.e8 is based on Mahindra’s new INGLO platform, and the brand is claiming a range of at least 500kms on all cars based on this platform. Other than that, we can expect an all-wheel drive variant on this car. What about the launch? It is expected to be launched in December 2024.

Mahindra XUV.e9

After the e8, we could see Mahindra launching the e9. The XUV.e9 gets a coupe-like design with a tapering roofline. Design-wise, it gets an inverted L-shaped DRL design. Overall the car is clean with not many cuts and creases. Like the e8, the e9 will also come with 500+km of range. What about its launch? It is expected to be launched in April 2025.

Ola has been quite vocal about its ambitions in the EV space. The Ola scooter is already raking in good sales, and Ola’s next target is a fully electric car. Ola has already started teasing the Ola car. The teased car comes with an aggressive front design. From the overall looks, it looks like a coupe SUV. Ola claims a range of over 500km on this car. Ola plans to launch the car in the upcoming few years. 

Hyundai/Kia affordable EV

Hyundai and Kia both are working on an affordable electric vehicle for the Indian market. According to reports, this EV will be based on an existing ICE platform. Early indications are that it could be the EV version of the Venue/Sonet. This will be perfect to take on the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV400. Considering current trends, the affordable option is sure to come with a claimed range of over 500 km. It is expected to be launched sometime in 2024.
