Electric cars continue to fascinate people all over the world. Most brands in India have started working on their electric cars with one Indian brands even leading the race. Mahindra has also been working on its dedicated EVs based on its Born Electric platform. Mahindra is planning to hit hard in the EV space. To achieve that, Mahindra has taken a big step by collaborating with the Volkswagen Group to aid its EV ambitions. Mahindra & Mahindra has joined hands with the Volkswagen Group to collaborate on the former’s upcoming electric cars. The carmakers signed a partnering agreement on Wednesday to ‘evaluate the scope of collaboration’. Both brands are expected to complete the deal by the end of this year.

So how Mahindra Volkswagen partnership work?

In simple terms, Mahindra will seek help and expertise from Volkswagen for its ‘Born Electric’ platform. Volkswagen will be offering its MEB electric components such as electric motors, battery systems and battery cells to Mahindra. The MEB platform also allows car manufacturers to build their portfolio of electrified vehicles, quickly and cost-effectively. Volkswagen’s MEB platform is currently being used by the group’s members like Audi, Skoda, and Volkswagen, among others.

This important news comes at a time when Mahindra is looking to unveil three electric cars on a dedicated EV platform. Earlier this year, Mahindra had posted a teaser showcasing its Born Electric vehicles. It is speculated that the teaser showcased three cars: a coupe SUV, a mid-size SUV and a pickup truck.
