Maruti had an eventful Auto Expo with several new cars unveiled. On day one it showcased the eVX concept, but the real showstopper was the much-anticipated Jimny. After waiting for years, Jimny is finally in India. So what are some of the talking points of the Jimny? In today’s article, let’s talk about the Jimny 5-door launch details.
Its 5-door
The first one is obvious it’s a five-door model. The Jimny sold outside India is the three-door model. Though it’s good, it wouldn’t have been practical in India. So Maruti had to make the 5-door version. The 5-door version offers better interior space and also provides a decent enough boot space.
Underpowered engine?
The Jimny 5-door continues with the same 1.5-litre K15B engine, which was used on the older Baleno, Brezza etc. This engine is capable of producing 101bhp and 130Nm of torque. The engine on paper seems underpowered for a car like Jimny, but Maruti uses the same engine on the Ertiga and XL6. So we will have to wait for real-life reviews to see this engine’s potential.
Jimny 5 door launch – 4×4
The Jimny is an iconic name outside India and is especially known for its off-road capabilities. Earlier, there were speculations that Maruti might skip the 4×4 in India. Thankfully that hasn’t happened and Maruti is giving the Jimny AllGrip Pro.
Features
The Jimny is geared toward true off-road enthusiasts, but still, Maruti has given it a decent amount of features. For starters, we have a 9-inch infotainment system, ARKAMYs sound system, all-power windows and auto headlamps. Safety features include six airbags, ABS with EBD, a rearview camera etc.
Jimny 5 door launch – Pricing
This is the biggest talking point for most people. What will be the price of Jimny? For now, Maruti has only opened up bookings for the Jimny. We expect the pricing of the Jimny to start below the Rs 10 lakh mark (ex-showroom). This could be an introductory price for early customers.
