Newly unveiled Maruti Jimny vs Mahindra Thar

The lifestyle segment is booming in the country. We have been waiting for Jimny to boost this segment. Maruti finally has taken the wraps off the Jimny. So how does it stack against the Mahindra Thar? In today’s article, let’s new Jimny vs Thar 2023. 

Dimensions 

The Jimny 5-door is 3985mm in length, 1645mm in width and 1720mm in height. It sits on a wheelbase of 2590mm and has a ground clearance of 210mm. In comparison, the Thar is 3985mm in length, 1855mm in width and 1896mm in height. It sits on a wheelbase of 2450mm and has a ground clearance of 226mm. The Thar comes in hardtop and convertible options.The Thar is clearly wider and taller giving more space in the interiors. It remains to be seen how the Jimny interiors feel after a long drive.

Jimny vs Thar 2023 – Specifications

The Jimny comes with the 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine. This engine is capable of producing 101bhp & 134Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and an 4-speed automatic. The Jimny comes with Allgrip Pro with low transfer fear.

The Thar now comes with three engine options – one petrol and two diesel. In petrol, we have the 2.0-litre mStallion unit capable of producing 150bhp and 300(MT) & 320 (AT) of torque. The two diesel engines are a 1.5-litre unit capable of producing 118bhp and 300Nm of torque. and a 2.2-litre unit capable of producing 130bhp and 320Nm of torque. The 1.5-litre diesel only comes with a manual gearbox option, while the other two engines come with manual and automatic gearbox options. The Thar now comes with a rear-wheel-drive and a 4×4 option.

Features

The Jimny comes with a decent amount of features. It gets features like a ARKAMYS sound system, 9-inch infotainment system, all power windows, basic Suzuki connect, auto headlamps, cruise control. In comparsion, the Thar comes with features like a touchscreen infotainment system, 4-wheel drive, 18-inch alloy wheels, front fog lamps, multi-function steering wheel, auto AC, TPMS, connected car tech and brake locking differential. 

Jimny vs Thar 2023 – Pricing

Maruti has opened the bookings for the Jimny with a booking amount of Rs 11,000. Pricing of the Jimny could be revealed just before the festive season. We expect the Thar to start from Rs 9 lakh (ex-showroom).

With the new lite variant, Mahindra is straight up targeting the Jimny. Now the Thar starts from Rs 12.12 lakh and goes to Rs 19.78 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). While the Thar 2WD starts from Rs 12.12 lakh and 4WD variants start from Rs 16.28 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
