Tata Motors has seen a rapid rise in sales in the last few years. But 2022 was especially good for the brand. The major contributor to this growth has to be the Tata Punch. The Punch has exceeded all expectations by raking in close to 10k to 12k sales per month. Currently, the Punch faces no competition in its segment, but that could change soon. Hyundai is working on a Punch rival. In today’s article, let’s talk about this new Tata Punch rival.

What do we know so far?

Hyundai is working on an all-new SUV to take on the Punch codenamed the Ai3. It is not the Casper it launched in South Korea. A few days back, the Ai3 was spotted for the first time in South Korea. Hyundai has taken heavy inspiration from Casper, but it is a bit bigger than Casper. It also had a taillamp design similar to the pre-facelift Venue. The spotted car also had roof rails and a shark fin antenna.

New Tata Punch rival – Expected specifications

The Ai3 could share its platform and mechanical bits with the Grand i10 Nios. So it is expected to come with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine. We don’t expect Hyundai to offer a diesel engine on the Ai3 due to the upcoming emission norms. Transmission options could include a manual and an automatic gearbox.

Features

Hyundai would look to load this SUV with features. From the spy shots, we know that it could come with a sunroof giving it an added advantage over the Punch. Other than that, we could see an 8-9 inch infotainment system, automatic climate control, a digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, etc. Safety features could include six airbags, ESC, ABS + EBD and traction control.

New Tata Punch rival – Launch timeline

This Hyundai Punch rival is yet to be spotted in India, but there are reports that Hyundai plans to launch it before the festive season of 2023. This would make sense as this is the peak car-buying season in the country. What about the pricing? Hyundai’s Punch rival could start from Rs 7 lakhs (on-road, Mumbai).
