The success of the Punch has made Tata bank heavily in the micro-SUV segment. Bringing SUV characteristics in a compact dimension is what comes out as a prime reason behind its success. However, if you are still not convinced about buying the Punch, you can definitely consider some other potential cars too. Which are these cars? Let’s take a look at potential Tata Punch rivals under the same price bracket.

This Japanese sub-compact SUV is one of the underrated cars in its segment. It does boil down as a commendable package with features like ambient lighting, a 360-degree camera, wireless charging, JBL audio system, etc. Moreover, it gets 2 petrol (1.0-litre naturally aspirated making 71bhp and a 1.0-litre turbo that generates 99bhp) engine options with manual and CVT gearbox options. If you consider its price, it starts from Rs 7.40lakh (on-road, Mumbai) whereas the majority of the sub-compact SUVs start from Rs 8.5lakh (on-road, Mumbai). Even if you get the turbo petrol with CVT gearbox it costs you Rs 11.66 (on-road, Mumbai) which ultimately gives you a bigger car by spending similar money as the Tata Punch.

Tata Nexon

For starters, you are now getting a powerful turbo petrol engine (118bhp and 170Nm of torque) and if you want to go for diesel, you have the option of a 1.5-litre diesel (108bhp and 260Nm of torque) mill. You also get better drivability, interior space and also more features. Pricing of the Nexon starts around Rs 9.06 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

If you are on a tight budget and still willing to go for the SUV experience, the C3 is one good option on offer. Though it’s a newcomer brand with just 2 products (C3 and C5 AirCross) in the portfolio, it is expanding its India operations. Talking about the C3, it gets 2 petrol engines, a 1.2-litre NA petrol (81bhp and 115Nm of torque) and 1.2-litre turbo petrol (109bhp and 190Nm of torque) which are available with a 5-speed and 6-speed manual respectively.

Its top model the Alpha AMT is priced at Rs 11.20 lakh (on-road, Mumbai) which is the same as the Tata Punch Kaziranga IRA AMT. The top variants of both these cars are priced almost the same (might change in some states) which leaves whether to go for a micro-SUV or a premium hatchback. Moreover, the latter has more tech packed which includes a Heads Up Display, 360-degree camera, large 9 inch touchscreen system, UV cut glass, etc. These features are not available in the Punch.
