Kia’s debutant for the Indian market has proved its metal being the highest-selling Kia car in India. With its bunch of features and sharp styling, the Seltos has managed to do decent number even though being a complete new car from a new manufacturer. Within a comparatively shorter life span of just 3 years, it falls under the top 25 cars sales category. However, the new Kia seltos could climb even further due to its big upgrades. Today we are going to talk about a very important news for Kia Seltos facelift buyers in 2023!

Powertrain changes

Currently, Kia offers the turbo petrol mill in the Seltos ie a 1.4-litre unit delivering 138bhp and 242Nm of torque. This mill also powers the Creta and Carens which comes mated to a 7-speed DCT or manual transmission(available only on the Seltos and Carens). Rumours suggest as this is a fully imported engine and making BS6 Phase 2 changes to this mill could be costly eventually increasing the pricing. With this being the reason, Kia and Hyundai are set to pull off the plug of this engine.

So, what’s next for the brand? Kia has a 1.5-litre turbo petrol mill mated to a 48V mild hybrid electric system on its globally available cars. This powertrain is planted in Kia and Hyundai cars like the Ceed and i30 respectively. The South Korean manufacturer is likely to introduce this new 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine replacing the older 1.4 motor. But, the chances of it getting a mild hybrid could be slimmer due to the additional costs.

Talking about this new 1.5-litre turbo petrol, this engine is touted to assemble on Indian grounds. Power figures would also witness an increase making around 157bhp and 253Nm of torque. This powerhouse is likely to be assembled in India that would ultimately help the brand save import costs. This could result in keeping the pricing in check. The upcoming Kia Seltos facelift, Creta facelift, new generation Verna and also the Carens are the most probable cars to get this engine option. However, there’s no clarity about the transmission options but we can expect the same affair here. If launched ,this engine option would make the Creta and Seltos the most powerful cars in their segment defeating the current top scorer – Kushaq and Taigun with their 1.5-litre TSi engines.
