Honda has had a torrid last few years in our country. It has struggled with no SUVs in its lineup, but now, Honda seems to have woken up from its deep slumber. It is working on two new SUVs for the Indian market; a Nexon-size SUV and a Creta-size SUV. However, one could be launched in 2023 and the other in 2024. Earlier we expected Honda to launch the Nexon-size SUV in 2023, but according to newer reports, Honda could first launch the Creta-size SUV in 2023. This new C-SUV will measure around the 4,200mm to 4,300mm length and could be based on the Amaze platform. Design-wise, Honda is yet to finalise the design, but it could be similar to the new WR-V launched in Indonesia. This SUV is an India-specific model and could be exported to other developing markets.

This Honda mid-size SUV is expected to come with only petrol engine options. So it could come with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol and a 1.5-litre strong hybrid petrol as seen on the City Hybrid. Honda could produce the hybrid system in India to lower its cost. Transmission options include a manual and a CVT gearbox for the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine and an e-CVT gearbox on the strong hybrid setup.

Honda knows that it will have to load its new SUV with features to take on the established players in this segment. Honda could give it a fully-digital instrument cluster and a big infotainment system. With ADAS becoming a norm, Honda could also give it Honda Sensing like the City Hybrid. Other expected features include wireless charging, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, a 360-degree camera and more.

Honda is expected to unveil the car in mid-2023, and the launch could happen before the festive season. What about the pricing? This Honda SUV will have a high level of localisation, so we can expect prices to be competitive. Once launched, this Honda will take on segment leaders like Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. Also, other rivals like the Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser HyRyder, MG Astor, Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun.
