The Japanese automaker which is renowned for its highly reliable cars entered the Indian market in 2000. It has a successful lifespan of 20 years which has concealed the badge of the value of Toyota. In the present times where we have already entered 2023, SUVs have become the Alpha category sitting high on top. The advantages of SUVs have turned out amiable leading this Japanese automaker to bring in more products. Though it has the humongous Fortuner in the full-size segment but now it might bring its cheapest SUV. Which is this new car? Let’s talk about Toyota’s cheapest SUV.
Cheapest Toyota SUV- Why is it needed?
Though Toyota is known for its reliability aspect if you see its current lineup, the SUV or even MPV are available starting beyond the means of an average Indian buyer. It has a void left for that mass market SUV which could cater to the needs. We have the Urban Cruiser HyRyder which starts around Rs 13lakh (on-road, Mumbai) eventually falling out of reach for many. So, a car like the Baleno Cross could be a perfect entry-level SUV model with a starting price of below Rs 10lakh. Therefore, we could see a Toyota version of the Baleno Cross which could get the name of the Corolla Cross or something on those line with a old Toyota moniker reignited. We all are familiar with the fact that Maruti and Toyota have joined hands to introduce plenty of mutually beneficial products suiting the Indian market. These include badge-engineered vehicles, adopting identical vehicular technologies, OEM parts sharing and more. Adopting the former strategy, Toyota is likely to introduce its own version of the upcoming Maruti Baleno Cross.
Toyota Corolla Cross – What could it get?
Just like what we have seen in the Baleno and Glanza, this is likely to be the same affair. The underpinnings, powertrain and interior layout are touted to be the same as the Maruti car but we can expect some design tweaks. To make the Toyota differentiate from the Maruti, it is expected to get a tweaked set of bumpers, a grille and other minor bits tweaked in the interiors. The feature list of the car is likely to be loaded with a sunroof, wireless charging, premium sound system, touchscreen infotainment system and more. The powerhouse of this car is set to remain the same which could be the 1.0-litre BoosterJet engine making 100bhp and 138Nm of torque. What about transmission? It is highly likely to get the 5-speed manual and the clarity regarding the automatic is still vague. However, there are high chances of a torque converter unit.
Cheapest Toyota SUV – Launch and Pricing
There is no official confirmation from the brand regarding the launch of this car. However, if we look at the present scenario wherein every manufacturer is racing fast in the SUV race, Toyota also has to propound a varied SUV base with multiple cars. If launched, it could be priced around Rs 7-8lakh (ex-showroom).
