Car sales have picked up since the end of the COVID pandemic. Everyone is looking to buy a car and naturally, carmakers are cashing on the demand. We are seeing new launches, still carmakers tell a lot of lies during the car buying process. What are these lies? In today’s article, let’s find out.

Seating capacity

Seating capacity is one of the most flexible concepts in the country. Most of the cars in India are marketed as 5-seaters, but most are proper 4-seaters at max. These cars are not capable of seating three adults in the back. Most of these cars come in the compact SUV segment. Carmakers also trick people in the MPV segment by promoting cars as seven and eight-seaters, but their third rows can only accommodate short-heighted adults or children. So it is better if you properly test the seating capacity before buying a car.

Car buying – ARAI fuel mileage

Mileage continues to be an important criterion in India. So, people consider ARAI figures as an important aspect. But this ARAI mileage is tested in ideal conditions like flat roads, without AC, etc. So you must check out the real-world mileage of the car you are considering buying before spending your hard-earned money.

All-new car marketing

Naturally, carmakers aggressively promote their new cars. However, many times they go overboard with marketing. Many carmakers highlight a lot of basic features as highly sophisticated offerings, thanks to complex terminology. You mustn’t get caught up in these promotions and buy your next car with proper evaluation.

Car buying – Performance

Performance is one deceiving concept. Traditionally, displacement or ‘cc’ has been the main priority in India. If a car comes with bigger displacement it automatically should have more power. However, that is not the case with the advent of the turbo petrol engine. For instance – the Maruti Brezza comes with 1500cc petrol but only produces 103bhp, while the Venue turbo petrol comes with a 999cc engine but produces 117bhp. So it is important to test drive the car thoroughly and not only consider the brochure numbers.
